Single-parentfamily in poverty has become a worldwide problem with the increasing number of single-parent family at present. China has gradually changed from traditional society to modern society, planned economy to marketing economy since Reform and Opening, with the diversification of family structure and social structure. A healthy family may become a single parent for various reasons, such as divorce, death of spouse.The form of anti-traditional family has appeared in China in recent years, such as premarital pregnancy, homosexuality, adhere to celibacy etc., which may broke the traditional Chinese marriage and family standards and lead to the increasing number of single parent families in our country.According to the survey, quite a part of single-parent family are in poor condition. Single parent poverty group is becoming one of the fastest owing poverties. The problem of single parent poverty has been from "personal confusion" to the "public sphere", which has aroused a common attention of governments and scholars. Not only lack of materials, but also other difficulties, such as be a laid off worker, poverty, the threat of unexpected events, physical and mental health of the members of the family and family members, parenting difficulties, etc. The developed countries have built a complete set of social welfare and social relief system for single-parent family. Although the problem of single-parent family in China has aroused the attention of the parties, there is no social assistance policy for single-parent family for a long time, relying on the existing social assistance system or some organization or individual kindness simply. Limited the number of families to be helped, most single-parent family are still in a very difficult situation.This paper analysis the present social assistance status of the single-parent family in China and point out the problems. Putting forward reasonable suggestions for the establishment of a reasonable and feasible social assistance of single-parent family in poverty on the basis of learning the experience of the social assistance of single parent families from the western advanced countries and Hong Kong and Taiwan in China, to provide help for single-parent family and solve their livelihood problems. With more dense and more solid social safety nets, single-parent family members are more confident in the face of life and the integration of society. This has a great practical significance for building a harmonious well-off society.
