The rapid melting of the Arctic ice cap is currently arousing concernment of the international society. If the previous decades the Arctic was a sphere of interest only for its littoral states (Russia, Canada, Denmark, Norway, Iceland and the USA) and so called "Arctic nations" (Sweden and Finland), now when economic and transport advantages of the region became more obvious, some new actors have recently appeared on stage, such as China and India.Meanwhile officially all the interested parties claim environmental issues to be prevailing over the economic ones, no government can deny the fact, that the High North is extremely rich with natural resources, like oil, gas, gold and diamonds, nickel and platinum metals and so on. Also the Northeast Passage along the Russian Arctic coast offers a new and safe transportation route, connecting Asia and Europe. The purpose of this exact thesis is to explore the possibility of the military conflict in the region. For this I address to the activities that involved countries are currently displaying there. Also I appeal to the historic aspect of each country’s involvement in the Arctic issues. In this study I analyze the existing governing system of the Arctic territory and perspectives of its improvement trying to foresee, if the international community can manage a growing tension in the region.
