Study Of Wellington Koo Diplomatic Thoughts And China’s Diplomatic Modernization

In modern Chinese history we were passive when we contacted with western countries, but we were in a constant process of adjustment and gradually walk on the right track. From traditional social relations of the tributary system to the modern society of equal diplomacy, China has always been a helpless dislocation diplomatic relations. With the modernization process of accelerating, there appeared a number of career diplomats and their diplomatic thought and practice laid the process of modernization of Chinese diplomacy.As the China’s most prominent diplomat in the 20 th century Wellington Koo always put the interests of the nation as the highest starting point in the diplomatic practice, firmly safeguarded national interests and dignity;in the treatment of national diplomatic affairs, on the basis of adhering to the principle that he sensibly compromised to reach a maximum consensus; in the international debate,he refered to the favorable legal documents, showing the career diplomat of literacy. Wellington Koo’s diplomatic thoughts and practice showed the development trend of the modernization of Chinese diplomacy, but also led the development direction of the modernization of Chinese diplomacy.This paper is carried out basing on the observation and thinking of the most typical practice and thought in Wellington Koo`s diplomatic career. I hope through the performance in a series of Chinese modern diplomatic node to depict his wonderful diplomatic thought, to reproduce the diplomatic practice style, and tries to reveal the relationship between his thought and the Chinese diplomacy modernization. This paper mainly from three aspects carry on:First of all, the formation of Wellington Koo’s diplomatic thoughts and the performance in different periods is described.This part, as the thesis carried out the basic phenomenon, strive to be clear and concise.Second, in the basic study of wellington Koo`s diplomatic practice, I will summarize the characteristics of Wellington Koo’s diplomatic thought,and reveals his professional knowledge of diplomacy, his skill of international law master and utilization ability;reveals his professional diplomatic attitude and demeanour; revealsthe reason of his diplomatic strategy, in consultation, negotiation,game theory,compromise of diplomatic activities to demonstrate calm and wise.Third, study the relationship of Wellington Koo’s diplomatic practice and modernization of Chinese diplomacy,and realize that the Wellington Koo’s diplomatic practice is the trend of development of the modernization of Chinese diplomacy, also his diplomatic thoughts and practice, and guide the development direction of the modernization of Chinese diplomacy.Finally, in spite of focusing on the historical contribution of Wellington Koo, I still describe his limitations, and hope that there would be profound reflections on the future generations.
