The Construction Of National Identity In The Perspective Of Political Rituals By China’s Military Parade

Ceremony is human behavior in community life with long history, playing an important role of maintaining social solidarity in different period. Political ceremony almost as long as the history of the political state, is of extreme importance to consolidate national identity and the construction of legitimacy. This dissertation tries to take the September 3 military parade in 2015 as the research object, analyses how to construct the national identity as a political ceremony.Through research, this dissertation found that because the different definition of "nation", national identity research mainly divided into two kinds of paradigm:national relations and national perspective. Review’s setting and the theme of the national perspective as the core technology, the Angle that the construction of national identity resources is given priority to with history, tradition and culture, its characteristic is the emphasis on "three other":pre-modern China, modern China, and China in the future.As a modern society politics ceremony, military parade is different from the pre-modern religious ceremony. Although China had a habit of parade but did not form a traditional parade, this dissertation hold that the early national advocacy construct the framework of understanding the military parade, from the perspective of Durkheim ritual function. The direction of national history of understanding framework made the parades being divine; Secondly, in the process of the military parade, the leader becomes the focus of the ceremony; he is not only the host of ceremony but also the symbol and source point of authority personification. The audience is the basis of the emotional mobilization of rites, the audience gathered let emotions being contagious and application of totem in ceremony made it become valuable.
