A Research Into The Evolution Of The Core Socialist Values After China’s Reform And Opening Up At The National Level

Core values are the soul of a culture, are the essence of the national culture, and are an indispensable spirit of national survival. The report of the Eighteenth National Congress of the CPC made clear definition of the core socialist values, namely prosperity, democracy, civility, harmony, freedom, equality, justice, rule of law, patriotism, dedication, integrity, and friendship, and the active cultivation and practice of such values. These values will serve as a leading force to realize the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation. The research into the core socialist values thus is of great significance to guide the ideological thoughts, reinforce social consensus, enhance national cultural soft power and fight for the right to international discourse.This paper mainly focuses on the research into the core socialist values at a national level, and will sort out the important thought and fundamental essence of several generations of leaders of the Communist Party of China about these values, thus fully reflecting the evolution of the values at the national level. The paper can be divided into four parts. The first part is the review of the related concepts of core socialist values which analyzes the background both internationally and at home. The first part also points out that it is necessary to raise the core socialist values, and that it is the best response to the contemporary problems in China.The second part mainly carries on the analysis of the evolution process of the core socialist values. From the embryonic concept to the preliminary refinement of the value system of "Four In One", to the formation and development of "the Three Advocation", this paper conducts a discussion on the exploration of the leaders into such values, which can fully reflect the formation and development process of the values at the national level.The third part mainly analyzes the cause of the evolution, and summarizes as follows:the fundamental cause of economic and social development, the need to strengthen the legitimacy of the party’s government, the external cause of challenge and collision coming form the western values.The fourth part is the summary of the exploration process of the Communist Party of China of the the core socialist values, revealing the law of the development in different stages, which is in line with the times, namely to adhere to the unity of the nationality and the times, of the practice and the law, and of the aim and the reality, thus casting experiential light on how to foster the core socialist values and construct socialist with Chinese characteristics.
