A Research On Althuseer’s Overdetermination Under The Perspective Of Historical Materialism

Overdetermination is an important part of Althusser ideology criticism. As the shaping of Marxist philosophy is the symbol of the ideology turn into scientific epistemological rupture, Althusser thinks that Marxism should not understand as vulgar economic determinism and the humanistic point of view, safeguarding his own Marxism. The academic study of the theory of over-determination not only lacks of systematic, but also mostly only from the humanism opposed perspective to the analysis and interpretation. Therefore, the existing research has made some progress, but the overall looked not fully grasp the meaning and nature of Althusser pluralistic determinism. As the basis of Althusser’s writings, based on the inheritance of existing research results and departured from the perspective of historical materialism, the proposed terms of background, the basic meaning, theoretical position, contribution and other defects of Althusser pluralism determinism conducted in-depth research.In the aspect of theory’s forming background, this article suggests, After the 20 th Congress of the Soviet Communist Party the thought of humanism development to achieve the ultimate, with the popular methods of structuralism, Althusser proposed the concept of overdetermination based on Mao Zedong’s On Contradictions in order to protect Marx. Then this article analyses the overdetermination’smeaning from the diversity of elements, diversity of structure, diversity and imbalance of things’ development, comparative analysis of the relation between Marxism dialectics and Hegel’s dialectic. In the discussion of overdetermination’s position in Marxist theory, it reaches a conclusion that the overdetermination proves there is a "epistemological rupture" from ideology to the science of Marxism in Marxian’s thought, then criticized the historicism, humanism and economical determinism are parts of ideology which are not Marxist theory. Finally, the article concludes the overdetermination’s contribution in theory, contemporary influence and basic defect. By advancing the overdetermination, Althuseer criticized the humanism of Marxism, effectively avoiding the further misunderstanding Marxism into Humanism. At the same time, always emphasizing structure, variation and diversity, and ignoring man’s subjective initiative and unity, makes Althuseer and his overdetermination turned into the extreme that opposite to humanism.
