Based on case studies of several selected charitable organizations and projects, the thesis carried out a research on the Fi lipino-Chinese philanthropy. Through the associations’ commemorative books, local Chinese newspapers, publications and other materials, combined with the analys is of interviews with the volunteers of the charitable projects, th e thesis sh ows the development and transition of the Filipino-Chinese Philanthropy from the time before 20 th century to recent years. This thesis analyzes the cur rent situation and existing problems of the Filipino-Chinese philanthropy and then gives som e suggestions. The dissertation attem pts to discuss the following issues: Firstly, to supplement the previous researches on the history of the Filipino-Chinese philanthropy. Secondly, to broaden the readers’ horizon and enrich their understanding about the Filip ino-Chinese community. Finally, through discussing historical and realistic problems, to summarize the experience and lessons of the development of the Filipino-Chinese philanthropy, to find solutions to those problems and to provide some practical suggestions.There are six chapters in this thesis, includi ng introduction, m ain body and conclusion part.The main body includes Chapter 2 to 5. Fr om Chapter 2 to 4, it describes the history of establishm ent and developm ent of the m odern the Filipino-Chinese philanthropy which was divided into three periods. During the time before the WWⅡ, taking the Philippine-Chinese Charitable Association,Inc as an example, to discuss the basic situation of the Filipino-Chinese philanthropy, including Filipino-Chinese philanthropy’s establishment and developm ent, target, content and ef fectiveness of the services. In the second period, after the WWⅡto the late 20 th century, the part discusses the changes of the Filip ino-Chinese philanthropy by choosing Barrio Schools operation, the Filipino-Chinese fire brigades and volunteer clinic as examples to discuss the basic s ituation, transition and its characteristics. The third part focuses on the situation of the Filipino-Chinese philanthropy during the last ten years. It takes May Ginhawa at Gawa-Action to Serve as an exam ple to analyze the n ew directions of the Filipino-Chinese philanthropy’ s development in recent years. In this part, the participants, clients, modes of operation, con tact methods of the Filip ino-Chinese philanthropy were analyzed and summarized. Chapter 5 discusses on the basis of the Filipino-Chinese philanthropy’s history and current situatio ns. Some thoughts and suggestions are put forward to solve current problems.
