Myanmar’s Political Changes And The Relationship Between China And Myanmar

After the election in 2010, Myanmar’s political situation has changed greatly, the domestic policy and diplomatic policy of Myanmar are all very different from before. As China’s important neighbor country, Myanmar’s political change is closely related to China’s national interests. It’s of great importance for China to analyze the political changes of Myanmar. It will benefits China a lot.In this paper, a verity of research methods, such as history, literature and experience, are used to analyze the relationship between China and Myanmar, for the purpose of analyzing Myanmar’s political change in detail. It’s helpful for China to making future diplomatic policy towards Myanmar through analyzing the characteristic and cause of Myanmar’s political changes.The first chapter mainly talked about Myanmar’s political changes in two aspects: internal and external. Myanmar’s democratization process developed steadily, in the meantime, the relationship between Myanmar and western counties has improved greatly.The second chapter analyzed the cause of Myanmar’s political changes. Economy, democratic problem and western countries’ sanctions are the main factors to push Myanmar to reform.The third chapter analyzed Myanmar’s relationship with America, India and Japan. America’s “Back to Asia” policy and India’s “Look East” Strategy influenced their relation with Myanmar. Among the three countries, Japan’s policy towards Myanmar is not clear.The forth chapter analyzed the prospects of Myanmar’s reform and the it’s influence to China. Army is the best leader to reform Myanmar; Myanmar won’t go back to the old development road; Aung SAN suu kyi is unlikely to be Myanmar’s next president. Modernization, not westernization, is Myanmar’s main concern. Myanmar’s reform has both positive impact and negative impact on China. It’s beneficial for china’s surrounding stability and the improvement of china and Myanmar’s cooperation, alleviating the pressure of China to communicate with Myanmar. In the meantime, American factor and democratic reform blured the relationship between China and Myanmar.The fifth chapter predicts that Myanmar will balance the relationship with four major countries. China could take some measures to strengthen the relation with Myanmar, such as improving trading level, communicating with NLD, participating in Myanmar’ s reform and strengthening the public diplomacy.
