| China has witnessed noticeable enhancement in the comprehensive national strength and great progress in the social development since reform and opening-up. Nevertheless, the illegal crime rate rises continuously as well. The expansion of criminals make prisoners released upon completion of their sentences(hereinafter referred to "released prisoners") become an important special group that cannot be ignored in the society. Many released prisoners are difficult to re-integrate into the society because of long-term isolation from the society after they leave prisons. In addition, their employability is low because of lack of skills; they often encounter discrimination from the society and rejection of others and have no social security. As a result, the phenomenon of "throwing the handle after the blade" occurs. Especially, female released prisoners serve multiple roles in families and the society, including daughters, wives, as well as children’ mothers. They serve as important ties and bridges in families. After many female prisoners are sent to prison, their husbands divorce them, they lose the custody of their children, and their complete families are broken. Such prisoners, after being released upon completion of their sentences, feel homeless, experience difficulties in earning their own living, and have no guarantee for their living. For the sake of living, they take risks in desperation and are "forced" to commit crimes again, bringing great hidden risks to the social stability. Therefore, the re-integration of released prisoners into the society, their employment status, their family and marital status, and their interpersonal communication status directly affect the social stability and harmony. An important action to reduce the re-crime rate of female released prisoners is to help them with continuing socialization, eliminate rejection and discrimination on them from the society, solve their employment problem, improve their survival skills, and provide adequate settlement, assistance, and education for them so that they obtain social security and build up the confidence of re-integrating into society. On one hand, measures can be taken to help them raise the employment awareness, grasp pragmatic skills, and improve their employability when they are in prison. On the other end, activities can be developed to help them gain acceptance from the society, enterprises, and families, obtain equal employment opportunities and effective employment security, better adapt to and re-integrate into the society, and become law-abiding citizens in the modern society. The solution to the continuing socialization problem of female released prisoners have a profound effect on the stabilization of families and society as well as reduction of the re-crime rate and help promote the perfection of China’s social security system and judicial system. Meanwhile, it is conducive to promoting social security, stability, justice, and fairness and eliminating social disharmonious factors so as to boost the social harmony and development. This paper starts with the status quo of released prisoners who re-integrate into the society, make a comprehensive and detailed narration on the obstacles and bottlenecks that released prisoners experience during their continuing socialization, and make analysis and effective sum-up from multiple angles to provide references for future continuing socialization of released prisoners. |
