A Study Of Old-age Care In Liaocheng Shandong Province In The Context Of An Ageing Population

Aging of population is one of the global problems. As China having the biggestpopulation in the world, aging of population gradually affects the country’s political,economic, social and other aspects. China’s huge population base and the increasing rateof aging have sparked the problems of old-age care. This study has researched the waysof old-age care in Liaocheng, Shandong. In the research of the current situation of theaging of population and the process of aging, we have analyzed the current situation of allthe ways of old-age care, their influence factors, their characteristics and existingproblems. We have provided constructive suggestions to solve these problems.This study is mainly based on the data from a survey from the elders inLiaocheng, Shandong. The study shows that, in the process of aging of population inLiaocheng, the current ways of old-age care and the choice will have been changing.Using statistical thinking, we have analyzed the single factors, multiple factors thatinfluence the ways of old-care and the effectiveness of the factors. The studyobjectively reflects the relationship between the influence factors and the choice ofthe way of old-care. Age and health status have significant difference in the choice ofway of old-age care. For the elders who are of higher age and in poor health status,they mainly choose the social way of old-care. For the elders who have lost theirspouses and have less children, they choose the social way of old-care for lighteningthe burden for their children and for spiritual consolation. The elders’ income level,marital status, level of education have significant effect on the choice of way ofold-care. With the extension of average age and a large number of only-children’sparents are of old age, the limitation of the capacity of the old-caring institutionsand the low-level of the services of them have come out.
