During the period of social transition in China, various social contradictions,problems and emergencies occur frequently. When facing emergencies, people areusually in the uninformed state, easy to make the wrong judgment. For this reason, themass media plays a vital role in transmitting information, clarifying the rumors as wellas promoting communication and coordination. In the information society, the networkcommunication exerts profound impact on human communication environment. Peopleare more inclined to obtain information from network, and the website has become amajor source for people to obtain information.This paper selects the news "the Songhua River pollution incident" in2005and“Hangzhou Fuyang water pollution event” in2014respectively reported by tworepresentative websites-“Xinhua” and “Sina”, as a case study of emergency. The twowebsites are both different in categories and styles. The study compares the newsreported by “Xinhua” with those of “Sina” in the several aspects, such as time, thenumber of reports, the reporting form, the contents, and tendentious attitudes. Besides,the longitudinal analysis is also applied to expose the transmission characteristics of theemergence reports in hope of providing more scientific reference to the reporting formatof emergency.
