Ever since the Reform and opening-up, economy-oriented national development strategy has always been the top priority of the governments at all levels. Nevertheless, rapidity may have been achieved on the economic development, yet ecological as well as environmental problems have become acute day by day and have aroused increasingly attention. Therefore, since the beginning of this century, an enormous Ecological Immigrant Project has been undertaking at varied levels to improve the ecological environment and people’s living conditions in the worsening areas:from the central government to the local authorities and the public. According to statistics, seven million people have already been transferred in the western China. It is estimated that by the year2050the number would reach ten million. The thesis is to explore the role of participation development and their practice in the ecological immigration for sustainable livelihoods and the influencing factors in each process based on a case study on E Banner’s immigration area of Inner Mongolia after field research, through in-depth interview and literature review as well as process tracing of the implementation on ecological immigrant project and the overall situation of the development of the following sustainable livelihood projects.Through this study, the paper arrives at a conclusion that the projects, the ecological migration can be influenced by factors like national development concept, connections of individuals, ability of the subjects in the development and profitability as well as knowledge of the local areas, etc., and accordingly, the participants’ enthusiasm and the fulfillment in these projects concerning sustainable livelihood will be further affected. Based on these findings, the thesis further forwards some thoughts on the Concept of Social Work Interventions in ecological immigration for sustainable livelihood development projects. The thoughts are mainly in three aspects, viz., promoting the’ endogenous development’ by adopting interactive participation; transforming the roles as well as functions of the social workers and reconstructing new cultures of the ecological immigrants by deconstructing the old ones so as to contribute to the development of their localization.
