| Detention Facilities should provide criminals with lessens of law, moral, and current situation as well as reeducation through labor in accordance with Article 23, Regulation of People’s Republic China Detention Facilities. Detention Facilities should arrange specific educations on law, moral and detention rules on purpose as planned on the base of criminals’ educational backgrounds in accordance with provision of Article 41, Measures for Implementing People’s Republic China Detention Facilities. The provisions manifest that ideological and political education for criminals should be given, through which the legal rights of suspects, defendants and prisoners can be protected. Under the circumstance of socialist market economy, many new problems appear in present contents and teaching methods in the re-education for prisoners. Supposed the old teaching methods were still used nowadays, it would be very hard to enable prisoners to change their ideas and acts. According to our investigation in detention facilities, it is often to hear polices’ complaints that some prisoners do not follow, even contradict, their order and management. The phenomenon demonstrates challenges in the traditional ideological reeducation for prisoners. It is essential to change or update traditional teaching methods and set up new ideas of the re-education. How to conduct the ideological re-education for prisoners under the current situation? The thesis focuses on the issue and tries to explore new mechanism of innovating ideological re-education for prisoners. The thesis consists of five chapters. The first chapter of it is Introduction and the remaining four chapters, as its main body, are divided into three parts. The first part, including Chapter 1 and Chapter 2, gives reviews of necessity and distinctiveness of ideological and political re-education for prisoners. The necessity refers to the need to carry out the regulations of detention facilities, the need to protect legal rights of suspects, defendants and prisoners, and the need to help change prisoners’ideas.The distinctiveness of the ideological and political re-education for prisoners refers to the complextity of educational objects and the diversity of educational methods. The second part, Chapter 4, analyses the status quo and causes of the ideological and political re-education. The status quo is discussed from the three aspects, including educational subjects, teaching methods, and teaching contents. The discussion comes up with existing problems including ignorance of the re-education, educational formalism, out of dated ideas of the re-education and teacing contents, and limitations of educational subjects as well. From the perspective of quality and quantity, the causes of the problems are shown.The third part, as Chapter 5, proposes and discusses new ways for innovating ideological and political re-education for prisoners, including upgrading re-educational management system, teaching contents, educational carriers, teaching personal resources and so on.The thesis presents the investigations of detention facilities in Jingzhou, Hubei and face to face interviews with different groups, analyses the status quo of ideological and political re-education for prisoners in Jingzhou and proposes innovating mechanism of the re-education.Up to now, few researches have been conducted on the ideological and political re-education for prisoners in China. As a rudimentary research, the thesis may have improper proposals. Any valuable suggestions for corrections are welcome. |
