Japan’s political parties’are a major event in modern Japanese history. Before and after the Meiji Restoration, the Western democratic ideas into Japan, enlightened many citizens quickly and gave them an insight of Western political systems. Combined with Japan’s national conditions, this helps to establish the requirement for constitutional freedom and civil rights movements. The development of the civil rights movement and the founding of a liberal political party helped laid the foundation for the future generation of the two major political parties. In 1889, Japan enacted the Meiji Constitutional amendment that established a parliamentary system ofgovernment that legitimized political parties’ activities and made multi party politics possible. Since then, Japan has seen the establishment of constitutional political parties and the launching of a campaign against the winnow basket valve twice uphold the constitution of government and finally established political parties in 1924. However, Japan’s political parties’were quickly suppressed by the military force and so Japan embarked on the road to fascism.
