| Since Huntington proposed the third wave of democratization, the process ofdemocratization has been a great concern but difficult problem. There have beenmany authoritarian governments repeatedly transition to democracy, and its researchhas become a political focus of the study. As a typical case of the third wave ofdemocratization, the Republic of Korea achieves a leap from military autocracy todemocracy and it’s significant for the process of democratization. This paperillustrated Christianity ‘s effect in the process of democratization from culturalperspective, and then analyzed the impact of foreign civilizations and indigenouscivilization connection, as well as the religious factor in the democratization of theAsia-Pacific and the world played an important role.Starting from the basic theory of democratization, based on the political processin the early Republic of Korea, the period of autocracy and democratic transition, thispaper refined the important role of Christianity in which, especially in the period ofautocracy and after the “6.29â€movement, and described the Christianity’s effect in aseries of political events from a historical point.This paper focuses on the influence of Christianity’s effect in the Republic ofKorea’s democratization.it analysis mainly from the economic, civil society and theelite, which played an important influence on the process of democratization in theRepublic of Korea. It highlighted the impact of religious factors in the Republic ofKorea by Christianity’s interaction with the economy, civil society and the elite. As aforeign civilization, Christianity is the most basic and democratic idea. Its connectionwith native civilization produced cooperation and conflict, which exists in alldemocratic countries and is also the problem this paper wants to solve.By the analysis of religious factor’s effect in the process of democratization inthe Republic of Korea, this paper analyzed the effect in the democratization waveboth in horizontal and vertical angles. It aims to expand Christianity factor to thereligious factor in the process of democratization of the entire East Asian countries,analysis the religious factor in three wave of democratization and ultimately supportsfor the democratization. |
