Puta dance is a unique dancing form in Uygur folk activity of Maxrap in Hami prefecture. In Puta performance, the instruments and music of Hami Muqam are often used as accompaniment, sometimes the lyrics are selected from local folk songs, the performers held “Puta” when they dance, and Puta as a media, play a communicative role between the performers. During the performance, the participators have no status priority, both of them will give a salute to each other for three times at the end of the performance and each time they will change to each other’s place in a clockwise direction. Puta dance is also the most widespread way for Uygurs in Hami to exress emotion in daily life, festivals and ritual activities. In different types of Maxrap, Puta dance will not change the forms as the Maxrap change its occation, so that it is relatively stable. In the performance, Hami Muqam is relatively independent from its music, lyrics, forms and content. Puta Dance is not just accompaniment, it has its own form in appropriate music,.Because of this kind of relative independence in performance space, music and lyrics, Puta has cultural and social meaning such as equality, communication and community identity. That is so say, to know and analyze Hami Puta dance is a window to acquire the local culture of Hami.
