The China Boom and Its Discontents is a collection of essays co-edited by Ross Garnaut, an Australian economist, and Ligang Song, a professor of The Australian National University. The writers of this book try to explore the deep reason of the China Boom and its discontents with a series of data and economic theories. Their ideas and knowledge represent the level of the same type of research at that time.During the pre-translation process, the author reads and analyzes the original text for many times, choosing the Text Type Theory as the theoretical guideline and Peter Newmark’s Communicative Translation as the strategy to deal with the translation. As this material for translation belongs to the informational text type and the content of the book is of social science, which includes formal style and a large number of long and complex sentences, it requires comprehensive application of various translation skills and numerous modifications for a better rendition. After that, the author modifies and improves the targeted text again and again before it gets finalized. This report consists of five parts. The first part gives an introduction to the book. The second part is about preparations. The third part is about the theoretical guideline being used in this report. The fourth part is the main body of this report, which illustrates problems and solutions during the task. The last part shows what lessons the author has drawn from the whole interpreting practice. In conclusion, the author has had a lot of gains and inspirations from this translation practice. While enhancing translation level, the author also further improves the abilities of reading the original texts, checking for information and analyzing vocabularies and sentences.
