| Based on the novels of Haruki Murakami from the 1960 s to present, this dissertation takes “sex redemption” as the research object, in the specific social and historical contexts in Japan, and discusses its social background, approaches, ending,main cause and characteristics.Description of sexual love is the important content of Haruki Murakami’s novels, which not aims to carter the vulgar consumption, but is a kind of redemption idea built in the literary world.He expects the citizens who are destroyed seriously by the alienated society in their life can re-obtain a complete, unique,free and rich life experience through the harmonious sex love instead of the logic in their complete private domain, so that they can realize the redemption of themselves, even the redemption of the society.Considering the social and historical background and text, this dissertation reveals the social problem faced by sex redemption in the Haruki Murakami’s novels. The capitalization in the material field has controlled the operation of the whole society, which not only caused serious damage to the individual spiritual life but also brought endless loneliness as well as the division of self-identity resulting in the groups’ public resistance and disturbance.In the face of this situation, Haruki Murakami regarded sex love as a kind of "private language" to break out the modern social rules and connect the life experience of the individuals, so that the redemption is obtained through the primitive life force, life respect and sense of security. Thus, he has been concerned about today’s social problems, and made efforts to solve these problems. Moreover, with a strong sense of realism and social responsibility, he considers the probability of realizing his dreams.He has been aware of that getting rid of the traditional bondage of sex is not as he hoped, on the contrary it is in the opposite situation: love declined in modern society, the flesh lost its rich meaning, and the breakdown of the traditional family followed. Although there is a huge gap between the ideal and the reality for Haruki Murakami, he is not pessimistic and discouraged but shows a strong fighting spirit. Japan’s complex system has caused serious damage to the individuals, and today’s invisible and anonymous "system" makes the individuals to lose the foundation of living.Haruki Murakami thought it over deeply, and carried on the severe criticism on the "system", at the same time he gave the deep concern for the individuals. Compared with other writers, Haruki Murakami’s ideas of "sex redemption " has its own unique significations.While with a high degree of idealized spirit, D.H.Laurence and other writers give the meaning of the ontological meaning of sex love, Haruki Murakami eliminates the grand narrative. Even so,he has been struggling to think about the life of redemption.Haruki Murakami describes the general image of the era, which reflects the social serious subjects, criticizes the social ills, gives the deep concern of the individual freedom, consistent with the value that are adhered by traditional writers and literary tradition. Thus, he always has the strong sense of social responsibility, realistic attitude, fighting spirit, humanitarianism concern. Moreover, his thoughts and exploration is deeper and more profound. |
