Cognitive Comparative Study Of Political Metaphor In Chinese And English Governmental Discourse

Politics and language are closely related. We can further understand that the political metaphor of the government discourse has a very close relationship with people’s cognition of the world.This thesis selects the government discourse of the two countries for five consecutive years(2012- 2016). Chinese report on the work of the government and American state of the union. And we intended to draw the metaphors from the text in English and Chinese and analysis them. In this paper, the corpus is the political metaphor discourse of the typical government text. We can figure out the differences of the two government discourse through the context of the same subject. Further, we can explore the reasons for these differences and find the basic laws. The speakers used these skills to achieve a national government’s ruling idea. The thesis used quantitative analysis method to contrast the difference of Chinese and English language. After researching the journals of domestic and foreign papers, we determine to use the cognitive metaphor linguistics as the theoretical basis, and combining the critical metaphor analysis method of the Charteris black(2004).The quantitative analysis method mainly has six steps: 1. Pick up the metaphors key words; 2. Classified metaphors key words; 3.Calculate the metaphorical resonance; 4. Contrast the frequency of using metaphor; 5. Contrast the metaphorical resonance; 6. Test the differences of metaphors.In the empirical research data, we would like to know if there has significant difference of two similar corpus system metaphors by chi-square test. The difference between the two research texts is mainly based on the chi-square test in SPSS software. In the study of vocabulary and the frequency difference is determination of a vocabulary of observation frequency value O with the theoretical expectation differences between E, here we put O and E were set to study Chinese text and English metaphor keywords appearing frequency. To this end, the construction of the statistic is called the 2x statistic, and its formula is as follows:Conclusion: It has been sum up the text that nine kinds of metaphors, respectively is: conflict metaphor, building metaphor, journey metaphor, plant metaphor, religious metaphor, fire metaphor, and the environmental metaphor, body metaphor and color metaphor. Using SPSS software, the metaphor difference of chi square test obtained data.The highest category of Political Metaphors in Chinese is "architecture", while the highest category in English is "journey". The political metaphor of China’s national development is more inclined to "construction", while the national development of the United States is more inclined to the "experiential" exploration.
