| With the rapid development of science and technology and increasing exchanges of information, more and more nations have been conscious of the significance of protecting intellectual property by means of applying for a patent. Due to the increasing growth of China’s international applications, the demands for C-E translation of patentability documents issued during the process of international application are increasing conspicuously. However, for a long time, many researchers and patent translators fail to provide systematic academic support for patent translation. To fill this gap, this thesis intends to utilize eco-translatology to examine the C-E translation of the Written Opinion of the International Searching Authority. The Written Opinion of the International Searching Authority is a patentability document issued during the process of international patent application filed by a patent applicant under the Patent Cooperation Treaty, and is a written opinion attached to the International Search Report drafted by an International Searching Authority on the submitted international application. This thesis, based on the author’s WOSA translation practice in Beijing RWS Science and Technology Information Consultancy Co. Ltd., analyzes the translational eco-environment of the WOSA from the linguistic, cultural and communicative aspects, and makes selective adaptation on the linguistic, cultural and communicative dimensions to solve translational problems occurring. |
