Applied Research Of Multimedia In Museum Exhibition

Currently, owing to its excellent performance in shaping the space atmosphere, rich visual changes and diverse forms, as well as interaction, inclusiveness and strong on-spot sense that traditional design modes do not provide, multimedia design enjoys great popularity among designers and the masses. Although multimedia design plays a great role in museum exhibition and has broad prospects, it is undeniable that multimedia design in China’s current museum exhibition shows many defects including non-ideal exhibition effects, technical misuse, and the inexplicit focus of exhibition, the disunity between contents and forms and serious homogeneity. Multimedia design should have become a light spot of exhibition space to guide visitors to deepen their understanding of exhibition themes and contents, but it has become a factor lowering exhibition levels.In this paper, by learning from and absorbing domestic and foreign research results in related fields, the author makes extensive fieldwork and accesses to a large amount of data to summarize features of multimedia design in museum exhibition and classify common technical means used in multimedia design. Moreover, a comparative analysis is made of multimedia design in the Frankfurt Film Museum, the Berlin Jewish Museum, the Mercedes-Benz Museum, and the USA Pavilion and China Pavilion at Shanghai Expo 2010, to figure out problems of multimedia design. The major cause of these problems is that designers fail to employ scientific design methods to deal with combinational relationships of multimedia with space and items on display, so that the items can realize common ground and mutual tolerance. On this basis, combined with practical experience in the Wulanchabu Museum, relevant theories of morphology are introduced in this study to explore appropriate ways for the multimedia design in museum exhibition, so that multimedia design can play a more effective role in museum exhibition.
