| This is a project report on translation of Betrayed by Your Kiss(Chapter1~chapter 4) written by an American writer Laura Landon. The novel tells a romantic love story between Lady Olivia Sheridan and Damien Bedford, who suffered a lot and got married eventually. The novel is fascinating and the characters are vividly depicted and differ in personality, and the novel also reveals the social condition of Victoria era as well as the noble characters of England aristocrats.The Victorian historical novel reveals English cultures, customs and historical traditions which are alien to Chinese readers. In order to make the translation idiomatic and easy to be understood, the author has translated the first 4 chapters of the novel guided by Functional Equivalence, hoping to reach the closet natural equivalence.This report consists of 6 chapters. Chapter One is an introduction to the mission and the significance of the project and the structure of the report.Chapter Two introduces the source text and its author as well as the basic notions of Functional Equivalence theory. Chapter Three introduces the process of translation and the difficulties encountered and corresponding solutions. Chapter Four is about the review and checking after translation. Chapter five is case study, which mainly talks about the translation strategies applied.The last chapter summarizes some experience and inspiration gained from this project and some problems to be solved in the future. |
