Study On Mental Health, Personality And Suicidal Ideation Of Prison Guards

Prison guards is a very special job, they have to deal with criminals every day, working content and environment make them face a lot of pressure, causing a series of psychological problems, even suicidal ideation. Suicidal ideation is the individual desire to commit suicide, but hasn’t taken action, it reflects the negative and dynamic thoughts of individual during one time. Individuals have suicidal ideation is likely to change to a suicidal behavior in the future, thus it brings very serious consequences. In this study we take 532 prison police in one prison of Chongqing as study subjects, mainly investigate the mental health, personality characteristics, quality of life and suicidal ideation of them. Surveying instrument is self-compiled Online Psychology Measure System, surveying scales are SCL-90, 16 PF, quality of life scale and suicidal ideation scale which are designed by Beijing Research and Psychological Crisis Intervention Center. Analyzing the current status of psychology health, personality characteristics, quality of life and suicidal ideation of prison guards, and exploring the relationship between psychological health, personality traits, quality of life and suicidal ideation, thereby providing a theory base for the management and suicide crisis intervention mechanism of prison guards, which will improve their mental health and make them serve the community better.Using SPSS to analyze the collective data, get the following conclusion:1) The positive rate of SCL-90 was 30.3%, all factors’ score were significantly higher than the national norm, the score of obsessive-compulsive, hostility, anxiety was significantly higher than soldier, the score of interpersonal sensitivity was significantly lower than soldier.2) The prison guards’ mental health level was unaffected by gender, age, marriage condition, education level, experience the death of relatives, but was serious affected by health problems and encountered life-threatening.3) The prison guards’ factor score of 16 PF tend to hign level in A, E, F, H, N, X1, X2, X3, X4, Y1, Y4, tend to low level in G, I, L, O, Q1, Q2, Y2, Y3.4) Male guards’ score was significantly higher than general male adult in F, M, N, O, lower in E, I, L, Q1, Q2, was significantly higher than male soldier in B, C, I, M, N, O, Q4, lower in A, E, F.5) Different gender prison guards’ personality characteristics had significant differences in C, G, I, L, M, X3, Y2. Different age guards had significant differences in B, F, G, H, I, L, M, Q2, X2, Y4.6) The number of suicidal ideation guards was 81, accounting for 15.2%, the number of attempted suicide guards was 8, accounting for 1.5%.7) The SCL-90 score of suicidal ideation guards was significantly higher than none suicidal ideation guards. Their 16 PF score tend to be hign in L, O, Q4, X1, tend to be low in A, B, C, E, F, G,, N, Q3, X2, X3, Y1, Y2, Y4. Their life quality was significantly lower than none suicidal ideation guards.8) Regression models showed that health problems, encountered life-threatening, obsessive-compulsive, depression, hostility, O, Q4, X1 were risk factors for suicidal ideation, and B, C, Y1, Y4, good body condition, good psychology condition, good family relationship were protective factors for suicidal ideation.9) Gender played a moderation role between mental health and suicidal ideation, Factor B and life quality played a mediation role between mental health and suicidal ideation.10) The Online Psychology Measure System could carry out various research work, it was an actual case combined application and research, it should be used and developed more int the further.
