Classic, Unsophiscated And Unusual: A Study On CHEN Hongshou’s Meticulous Style Flower-and-bird Painting And Its Impact On My Art Creation

CHEN Hongshou, an excellent artist in the late Ming dynasty, was extolled as a genius in painting that few painter can approach his greatness within centuries. His distinctive artistic characteristics as well as original view on painting learning make a large impact on my works of art. At the same time, the creation of meticulous style flower-and-bird painting in modern time consists of two implications:one is learning from the ancient artists, the other is making innovations. Under such circumstance, therefore, this paper is divided into three parts. First, make a brief interpretation of CHEN Hongshou’s meticulous style flower-and-bird painting and its artistic characteristics. Second, explain the way I put Chen’s art theory into practice, adapt his painting technique, and add new element into traditional meticulous style flower-and-bird painting. Last but not the least, demonstrate the theme and details of my own works of art. In a word, this paper intends to seek new development of my art creation by learning from past and taking contemporary spirit into consideration.
