Jangar is one of the three most famous epics of ethnic minorities in China. It produced in the area of the Oriat Mongolia of Xinjiang. We can say that the epic is the carrier of Mongolian folk knowledge and an encyclopedia of Mongolian spirit, culture and life, because it involves all levels of Mongolian life, history and culture. Although it is not generated as a religious cultural classic, its form, content, and circulation are closely linked with religion. Therefore, the study of religious culture of Jangar has great importance to promote its own research and development; if ignored, Jangar would lose the authenticity and scientificity of art. Scholars have noticed the religious issue of Jangar long ago and widely discussed, but most studies are scattered, not systematic and in-depth. Those articles just covered the Shamanism and Buddhism of the epic in surface and not enough to explain the intersection of the two religious cultures in depth.Based on the previous research, I aimed to sort out the Shamanism and Buddhism factors of Jangar and make a deep analysis on the impact of these two factors toward the epic,so as to reveal that the real motive of the plot of the epic is Shamanism, then summed up the religious cultural characteristics of Jangar and judged its forming age according to it. This thesis contains four parts: Chapter one expounds the native religiousness of Jangar from the characteristics of Mongolian epic and the folkways of the epic etc. Chapter two excavates the traces of Shamanism culture of Jangar. Chapter three mainly interprets the traces of Buddhism culture of Jangar. Chapter four makes a comparative analysis to these two religious cultures and judged the forming age of Jangar eventually in accordance with the result.
