With the development of globalization, translation has played an increasingly important role in the world of frequent cultural, diplomatic and economic changes. This MTI translation project selects two chapters as the sources text: “Lobbying for Animals” and “Using Your Words to Benefit Animals”. They are excerpts from the Book Defending the Defenseless----A Guide to protecting and Advocating for Pets written by Allie Phillips. This book, published in 2011, is for anyone who wants to join a growing crusade to bring animal protection to its rightful place in a civilized society, to protect animals from harm inflicted by humans, and allow them to live happily in an environment that appreciates their unique qualities. The objective of the translation project is to introduce the innovative methods of animal protection to the Chinese people who love animals, especially who keep pets. Under the trend of keeping pets in China, there must be a growing need for seeking guidance on how to get involved in protecting and advocating for pets. In recent years, there is a growing trend for animal advocates to call for human rights upon treating animals in Western countries. There are many innovative ways of animal protection that could be referenced. Its translation from English into Chinese will provide readers with the variety of ways that they can help companion animals and offer practical tips to get involved in helping animals. From the point of view of equivalence effect theory, the writer of this translation report agrees with Nida who points out that the impact of the TL text on its receptor should be as close as possible to that of the SL text on its own receptor, which exerts great impact on the adopted translation strategies. It is important for the translator to try hard to transport the optimal equivalent information of the original text naturally to the readers of the translated text. The information of the original text include: main spirits, specific facts, artistic conception and atmosphere. Taking the advantage of other translation research methods will contribute to the accuracy and academic level of the translation. With the translation strategies like the literal translation and the liberal translation, combined with translation skills like amplification, division and reformulation, the translator can optimally realize the purpose of intercultural transmission.
