Crane culture originated before Qin Dynasty. Developing to the Tang Dynasty, the cultural and emotional connotation of crane became more abundant. The image of crane was appeared in the literature, art, life of Tang Dynasty. Many people raised crane on that time, the literatis and hermits take the crane as their companion. In Tang Dynasty, the Taoism is thriving, so as the symbol of it, the religious significance of crane also became abundant. The Crane image in the poems of Tang Dysnasty has the unique aesthetic characteristics, and reflect the evolution of literatis’ concept. As a symbol of the Taoism, crane is an irreplaceable role. But at present, there is still a lack of systematic analysis and deep research on the crane image that which in the poetry of the Tang dynasty. This thesis combined the biosgnature of crane, elaborate the aesthetic expression of crane in poetry of the Tang dynasty, and the crane image which reflected the literatis’ concept, and how can crane to be a symbol of Taoism in poems.The main body of the thesis is divided into three chapters. The first chapter analysis the biosignature of crane and the crane culture in the social life of Tang Dynasty. And explore the crane image’s aesthetic characteristics in the poems. The second chapter discusses the literatis’ consciousness which reflcted by crane image, including the literatis take crane as their companion、the emotional meaning and the prospect meaning of crane image in the farewell poem、the literatis’ aspire for hermit、the literatis’ life consciousness. The last chapter expounds the crane as a religious symbol of Taoism in poems, especifically analysis of the crane and the Taoist practice、Taoist image and the characterization of Taoist temple. At last, the paper summarizes the Taoism culture spirit reflected by crane image——rendering the holiness of religion, and also express the religious dream to seek for the forever freedom and beyone the fate.
