In China, an increasing number of people choose to go abroad for study. Under such circumstances, information about study abroad which describes the overseas study and life has very high reference value for this group of people. Information about study abroad is commonly seen in major foreign media and websites, and the translation of it is quite important. However, the translation at present is far from perfect and there are no specific norms or principles for such text. Therefore, on the basis that large numbers of cultural factor is contained in such information, this thesis researches and analyzes translation methods used in the translation practice under the guidance of Newmark’s communicative translation theory. A classification of cultural factors in the source text is made, namely, similar cultural factors, discrepant cultural factors and vacant cultural factors. Then, corresponding translation methods are chosen for the realization of communicative functions. Literal translation and idiomatic translation can be used for the translation of similar cultural factors; literal translation with notes and idiomatic translation can be used for discrepant cultural factors; and transliteration, literal translation with notes, zero translation with notes as well as liberal translation can be used for vacant cultural factors. This thesis has deficiencies due to limited time and ability. Hopefully there will be more ideas and thoughts valuable for the development of translation of information about study abroad in further study.
