As a important branch of archeology, Longshan Culture is not only an indivisible parts of the Chinese pottery culture but also an important parts of Chinese civilization. Being the highlight of Longshan Culture, Longshan black pottery has its unique features in the artistic characteristics and the craftsmanship, which are appreciated and studied by the artists. The black pottery culture emerged, developed to a period of great prosperity, then died following the course of nature. As the development of social civilization, people are paying more and more attention to the traditional culture. “Making the past serve the present” is not just a slogan but a practice. Besides, Longshan black pottery, as a miracle among the numerous historical relics, is deserved to be researched, developed and inherited. This thesis states from what form the Longshan black pottery should be in when it returns to the modern life. And it fully discusses the specific expression of Longshan black pottery decorative design. Moreover, this thesis gains the inspiration through the analysis of application that combines with modern craft techniques. What’s more, this thesis discusses and researches into how to inherit the social value and the inherit value and how to draw lessons from the traditional art correctly.This thesis consists six chapters. The first chapter is introduction. It mainly states the current research situation, research angel, research purpose and significance, research methods and foundation of the Longshan black pottery. Then it puts forward relative achievements of Longshan black pottery decorative art research. Thereby it sums up the defaults and brings forward its own research methods on this foundation. The second chapter detailedly sums up and analyses the historical background and reasons, features and typical antiques and its craft technique. In particular, it emphasize the analysis of the reasons and background for the Longshan black pottery’s emergence. The third chapter exhuastively discussed concrete embodies of Longshan black pottery. The fourth chapter draws a summary from the analysis of the merits and deficiencies of the combination Longshan black pottery culture with the modern technics. In addition, it expounds how to draw lessons from the decorative design accurately starting from the form in modern design of Longshan black pottery. It builds a bridge connected with traditional technics and modern design though trying to propose concrete ways that can be applied into the modern design. The fifth chapter illustrates the application in the modern black pottery design of the Longshan black pottery. Thus, the research achievement of Longshan black pottery can be better utilized to serve the modern black pottery design. The sixth chapter contains the summary of the thesis, the questions that show up during the write of this thesis and somewhere needs to be improved. Therefore, it can be as a reference and inspiration for someone who studies the Longshan black pottery even explores the black pottery culture.
