An Study Of The Biological Approach To The Issue Of Self

The issue of self is not only a hard problem in the history of philosophy,but also the focus which concerns about such questions as consciouness,qualia in the philosophy of mind nowadays.However,the reasearch status of self could be illuminated by the term chaotic,which mainly reprensents like this:different self theories possess different defination of self;even the questions are also not clear among those fields of ontology,epistomoly,phenomonology,developmental psychology and sociology;those self theories are within themselves’ circle,which lack specific and common goal and so on.lt results that the further we step,the more remote we leave away solution.The reason is that the way they asked the question is wrong,namely,they started their reasearch from the question of what is self,then they took the ontological question as the starting point. Western academic circles gradually showed interest in the meta-question on self against the background of the spread of the ancient eastern research to the West in recent two or three decades.Damasiao is one of the most important reprenstatives among those researchers whose charaterized work is to come up with the tripartite self theory which combine many reasonable factors based on the epistomological transformation.If we want to change the situation where we did not essenially get progress,even with much energy,we would have to transform our starting point from the ontological question to the epistomological question,that is,the issue of self-consciousness or sense of self,which is at least priority among those qustions.Damasiao defended for the folk psychology in the scientific method on the foundation of the discussion on the biological origion of the sense of self.Damasiao considers the self to be the mental reality coming from the process in which unconscious neuro patterns becomes the mental images.After that,combining with the theory of evolution,he puts forward the embodied tripartite self theory.
