A New Probe Into The Social Thought And Social Behavior Of The Wei-Jin Scholars From The Perspective Of Group-Individual

The Wei-Jin demeanor is a dazzling pearl in the spiritual history of ancient China.Throughout history, many scholars have interpreted Wei-Jin demeanor in different ways, but most of them are focused on the area of history and literature.What we call history today is the social reality of the past, and the present social reality will be the history of future. If we try to study the thought and behavior of the Wei-Jin scholars from a Group-individual perspective by sociology, then we might make some new discoveries.The Wei-Jin demeanor is embodied in the historical process of the scholars’ restraint of the old social consciousness and the realization of personality. Thus, we have to move backward to explore the Han Dynasty Confucianism,which had ruled the spiritual world of scholars in the previously centuries,as well as its historical evolution process.We should recognize the ideology of Han Dynasty is anything but same to the spirit of Confucius and Mencius. And it is the distortion of the Confucianism that cause the fierce revolt of Wei-Jin scholars.The study on the well-known scholars, of whom Ruan Ji and Ji Kang are the representatives, is the main part of this paper.We shall also see the different manifestations of other scholars who have a behavior or mental interaction with them. Based on the typical scholars’ main social behavior,I make a simple classification of them under the framework of Confucian ethics,as follows:the hypocrite,the arrogant people,the hermit, the saint.
