Between Music And Politics:Debate On Yayue In Mid Northern Song Dynasty

This article take musical debate during the period of JingYou and Huang You in the reign of emperor RenZong as the object of study. This article also focus on the specific process and operation mode of Yayue-making from perspective of Song scholar-officials of the political culture.In the introduction part, from summarizing the research achievement of Song Dynasty music and Yayue debate, the author defined the concept of Musical-debate. By understanding the lack of scholars to get through the music and politics, the author confirm the research approach and discussed on the whole process of two musical-debates.In the first chapter, the author discussed the basic characteristics of Song Dynasty’s Yayue. From the point of view of change in the music system of Taichang Si and JiaoFang, the author reviewed the court music of Song dynasty’s inheritance and development of the Tang court music. From the perspective of ZhouLi and Confucianism, the author states the use of Sony Yayue and its social and historical background.In the second chapter, the author discussed the musical-debate during JingYou period in the reign of emperor RenZong. From reviewing Yayue construction of TaiZu, TaiZong, and ZhenZong,to the opening of large scale musical construction of JingYou period, the author demonstrate the music making, rediscovery of Bell-Temperament and discussion between courtiers. Based on the detail research of JingYou’s musical-debate, the author explained the relationship between music making and the political situation of imperial court.In the third chapter, the author discussed the second large scale musical construction of Huang You period. On the retrospection of the sudden change of internal and external political situation which Northern Song Dynasty has faced, by analyzing historical data of "HuangYou XinYue TuJing", citing a large amount of its pictures, the author restored supporters and opponents in courtiers during Huang You period. In the end, the author revealed the reason of DaAnYue’s abolition.In the last chapter, the author Summarized the links between the two musical-debates. And demonstrated it played an important role in SongDyansty’s musical-debates and prospected the further research of Northern SongDynasty’s musical-debates.
