Audiences are often attracted by the perplexing, mysterious, dynamic, and heart wrenching plot; the demure, euphonious and moving music; the awe-inspiring set design; the glamorous and luxe costumes; the strong and full orchestra arrangement; the complex sceneries; and the ever-changing stage traps of the classic musical<Phantom of the Opera>. At the same time, it is easy to miss the character development presented by the actors and actresses who make up the core of the performance. This paper aims to compare and contrast the different acting styles of three actresses who brought the character "Christine" to life:Sarah Brightman, Sierra Boggess, and Emmy Rossum. Furthermore, this paper will go on to discuss the reasoning behind the consistency in Christine’s characterization, along with the discretion in character trait diversity. In a sense, character diversity in musicals is a result of forming performance recreation, along with a more matured fundamental acting ability. Understanding the role of character recreation, highlighting the importance of character recreation in how it creates a bridge and link between fundamental characterization and audience appreciation has no doubt, a profound practical significance toward the development of musical performance.
