| Alfred Desenclos’s prelude,cadence et finale is considered as a significant work of the saxophone composition in twenty century.This piece is divided into three distinct sections to be played without pause,the variation and reappearance of the thematic materials contribute to the closely connection of this three sections.This analysis presents the relationship and features of those constituent elements in this piece with pitch-class set theory which regard as the primary analyze method.This dissertation consists of introduction,main body comprised of four chapters and conclusion.The first chapter introduce the saxophone’s inventor and the development of saxophone,the second chapter outlines the biography of Alfred Desenclos and his compositions.The third chapter attempt to answer following questions,What’s the pitch-class set theory?How to calculate the pitch-class set and archetype?The fourth chapter give a close attention on the materials and structure of every sections in this piece.This dissertation tries to find the splendid design of the placement in musical form and the highly unification of narrative in prelude,cadence et finale via the understanding of motivic materials. |
