The Study Of The Correlation Between Evolution And National Character In Lu Xun’s Thought

“Evolution” and National character " are two dominant components in Lu Xun’s thought. Under the background of the late 19 th century, these two components had similar development genealogy, which originated and evolved in the west,meanwhile,spread to the east as universal thought resources. Under the dual effect of “Salvation " and " enlightenment ", young Lu Xun accepted these two components in a short period of time. He combined them intentionally or unintentionally, and eventually brought in a mutual support and penetration relationship of these two components in his mind. This article tries to restore the development path of Lu Xun’s early thought, and construct the relationship of these two components in his thought. This paper will be divided into three chapters.The first chapter: combing the development genealogy of "evolution" and "national character" at the end of the 19 th century. By this chapter, I try to emphasize:(1) "evolution" as a concept of "revolution" penetrated quickly into the biological, social, cultural and other fields, the most important role of it is to solidify human’s concept of "progress".(2)the “Subjective Spirit” is an important clue lurked in the thoughts of "national character" of late Qing dynasty.The second chapter: clarify the characteristic and status of “evolution" and "national character" in Lu Xun’s thought. By this chapter, I try to highlight:(1) Influenced by the thoughts of Nietzsche, "degradation" and "spirit" is important dimension of Lu Xun’s "evolution".(2) "National character" in Lu Xun’s eyes is a dynamic concept, which is positively correlated with the evolution of the "culture".The third chapter is about the construction of the relationship between "evolution" and "national character”, which is the key and difficult point of this paper. I will construct from both the possibility of concrete connection between these two components and the specific link path of them. Firstly, in view of the possibility, I tried to highlight:(1) the common "evolution" influence in Lu Xun’s thought resources.(2) The guiding role of Lu Xun’s "problem consciousness".(3) the possible effect of Nietzsche’s thoughts. Secondly, as for the specific link, I focused on analysis:(1) from the "evolution" to the " cultivation of people ".(2) From "spirit degradation" to "cultural criticism".
