Language is the most important instrument for communication and is a medium for exchanging ideas. People use language to preserve and pass their achievements of civilization. So, it inevitably influences politics, economy, society, culture, science and technology. Language, as a cultural phenomenon, is continually developing and the current spacial distribution is the bygone development results. Meanwhile, language is one of the significant traits of various nationalities. Generally speaking, a nationality has its own language. Korean is a frequently-used communicative instrument for Korean nationality.Pronunciation is especially important in learning Korean language and it is formed during the preliminary stage of learning. It is also closely related to the teacher’s teaching methods. The vowels in Korean consist of monophthongs and diphthongs. The diphthongs are formed on the basis of monophthongs, so the monophthongs play an indispensable role in Korean. This paper studies Korean monophthongs by research method of experimental phonetics.Subjects of the study are randomly chosen Korean college students of Yanbian University, whose major is Korean. They consist of three male students and three female students. This paper conducts a developmental experiment for them on Korean monophthongs.The paper consists of four parts.The first part is introduction, which expounds the purpose of research and its significance and enumerates the research method and the procedure of experiment. In the meantime, the introduction involves the reviews of research results of Korean monophthong phonetics.The second part is the first experimentation, which expounds the data collection of every stage of those three male students during the process of learning Korean pronunciation gradually. A comparison diagram is also prepared among the male student, the teacher and the announcer. In this experimentation, the wrong pronunciations of the male students are found and some conclusions about developmental study on Korean monophthong pronunciation are reached.The third part is the second experimentation, which expounds the data collection of every stage of those three female students during the process of learning Korean pronunciation gradually. A comparison diagram is also made among the female student, the teacher and the announcer. In this experimentation, the wrong pronunciations of the female students are found and some conclusions about developmental study on Korean monophthong pronunciation are reached. The forth part is the conclusion. The paper obtain score responding conclusions through the experiment data and also reveals which monophthongs must be noticed and how to teach them. At the same time, there are still inadequacies must be completed in experimentation. |
