A Report On The Translation Of Secret Garden From English Into Chinese

The translation of children’s literature has became prosperous since 1980, which witnesses that many Chinese versions of Foreign Children’s Literature works pouring into the Chinese Children’s book market. As a branch of literature, children’s literature has a positive influence on children’s psychology. It is a good way to purify their soul. On the other hand, it is beneficial to promote children’s linguistic capacities and cultivates their aesthetic consciousness. With deepening of cultural communication between countries, the translation of children’s literature has developed vigorously. Moreover children’s literature translation draws increasing attention from researchers both at home and aboard. Due to the high aesthetic value of children’s literature translation, this thesis attempts to explore the children’s literature translation from the perspective of translation aesthetics, choosing the Children’s book Secret Garden as the source text of the translation report, which combines the translation aesthetics with children’s literature translation. Meanwhile, the author wrote the translation report, hoping it can provide beneficial reference for the later translation practice and research of children’s literature.Secret Garden has become a popular children’s literature translation work around the world since its publication in 1991. It is also the most popular children’s fiction of Mrs. Burnett. The work has many wonderful scenery descriptions, which gives authors so beautiful a kind of enjoyment that it has been adapted into the movie and the play. At the same time, it has been translated into many languages. This translation practice report takes the excerpt of Secret Garden as a case study, which analyzes and discusses the translation task from the perspective of the translation aesthetics. Meanwhile, it also illuminates the translation task in detail and carries on the summary to the translation practice.The report concludes five parts. The first part is the description of the translation task, which includes the background and current situation of children’s literature translation and the practice significance of this study; the second part gives a general description of the translation process, including preparation, translation and modification; the third part explores the definition of children’s literature and the features and principles of children’s literature translation under the guidance of aesthetics principles; the forth part is the main body of this translation report. From the perspective of the content and the form of the translation work Secret Garden, we can figure out how to grasp the aesthetic principles in children’s literature translation; the fifth part is the conclusion, which summarizes the whole translation practice work.This paper analyzes the translation practice of Secret Garden from the perspective of aesthetics, which not only gives the children the opportunity to enjoy the works, but also promotes the healthy development of children’s literature translation. At the same time, the author also hopes to help children’s literary translators and readers to enrich their aesthetic experiences, which can also deep their aesthetic consciousness, and improve the function of aesthetic appreciation.
