| This paper is a report on translation of The Secret of Shadow Ranch. The fiction is one of Nancy Drew series books, which tells a story about Nancy Drew and her two friends in Shadow Ranch.There are four chapters of this paper. The first chapter is an introduction to the source text and its author as well as the purpose and meaning of the project. The second chapter mainly summarizes the guiding of the Adaptation Theory of Verschueren. It mainly discusses the guidance from contextual correlates of adaptability. The third chapter includes discussions about the translating methods used on words and sentences under the guidance of the Adaptation Theory, which are verbalization, using onomatopoetic words and reduplicative words, using terse and lively words, addition, omission, transformation of synonymous expressions, converting passive voice to active voice and adjustment of word order. The last chapter summarizes the guiding theory and translating methods of the translation of The Secret of Shadow Ranch. |
