A Report On The E-C Translation Of Language Rights-From Free Speech To Linguistic Governance (Chapter 1)

This report is based on the English-Chinese translation of Language Rights--From Free Speech to Linguistic Governance (Chapter One) written by the American writer Vanessa Pupavac. In this report, the author of the report discusses the difficulties and solutions in the process of translation. The source text is an academic one mainly talking about language rights, and it emphasizes the importance of language rights from the perspectives of law, politics and linguistics. The author of the report chooses Nida’s functional equivalence as the guiding theory during the process of translation.The report is intended to employ case analysis to discuss the translation of terminology and the translation of long and complex sentences. In dealing with the translation of terminology, literal translation and literal translation with annotation are applied in the translation.
