This report is based on the English-Chinese translation of According to The Rolling Stones published by Weidenfeld & Nicolson, a British publishing company. In this book the members of the band, Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Charlie Watts and Ronnie Wood, tell us the stories of themselves, the band and the history of blues and rock’n’roll in Britain. Since it is a reorganization of the interviews of the greatest rock’n’roll band in the world, the book has the features of using short sentences and colloquial vocabularies, which should be presented in the translation.About ten thousand words have been chosen from the whole book as the object of this study which introduces, analyses, and summarizes the translation task under the guidance of Peter Newmark’s semantic translation and communicative translation theories. This report consists of five chapters. The first chapter is an introduction of the book and the author. The second chapter is about the preparation before the translation, the translation procedure and the revising of the translation. The third chapter is the theoretical thesis that guides this task. The fourth chapter is the case analysis, which is the core of this report. The last chapter is the summarization of this translation practice.
