A Report On The Translation Of Grounded Cognition

This is a translation report on academic paper. The source material is an academic paper called Grounded Cognition written by Lawrence W. Barsalou, a psychologist and a cognitive scientist in Emory University in the US. The translator and her supervisor codetermined this task and finished it in cooperation with another translator. This task is aimed at developing the abilities of collaborative translation and academic paper translation. The material systematically introduces theories about grounded cognition with typical academic language. The whole paper firstly introduces procedures of collaborative translation, including pre-translation preparation, discussion in translation and post-checking. The paper then has a detailed discussion about translation difficulties, such as academic terminology, language characteristics, the concretization of words and the logistic relations among paragraphs, and their relevant solving process and strategies. The translator chose main versions of academic terminology by consulting various dictionaries and relevant materials, found out the profound meanings of some words and clarified the logic relations of some sentences and used some methods in the translation, such as addition and semantic extension. The final part of this report is the conclusion, about the invaluable experience accumulated in this translation project and the possible ways to improve my translation capabilities.
