Since ancient times, poetry has formed an inseparable relationship with music. Poetry, the vehicle of the Chinese civilization, has been integrated with Zheng, the manifestation of classical rhyme, from which many works of excellence have been created. Zheng, the ethnic instrument with more than 2000 years of history and unique tones, has developed into several major genres. Generations of master artists have left their marks on history with great works of different styles. Zheng works that are related with poetry often possess spiritual expressions like wash paining, unrestrained elegance like running script, implicit and exquisite emotion, and deeply touching impact.As a student who majors in Zheng Performance, the author should not only master all kinds of performing skills, which include expressing the "rhyme" of Zheng, and should also express the intrinsic signification, the emotion of characters, and the deep artistic conception. Additionally, the author should all the time pursue and pass on the spirit of "Harmony" of the ethnic culture during the process of creation, performing and theoretic research. This article shall start with the three aspects of "Emotion", "Rhyme" and "Artistic conception", then shall briefly arrange and analyze the connection between poetry and Zheng works, and shall illustrate the examples of emotion expression, manifestation of rhyme and convey of artistic conception within related works. The purpose of this article is to explore the relationship between poetry and Zheng works, the contemporary development of ethnic instrument works, and the positive influence of such connection between traditional cultures on the heritage of the quintessence of ethnic culture.
