Bai JuYi Seasonal Poetry Study

Based on Bai JuYi seasonal poem as the main research object, this thesis analyzes the seasonal culture of Tang Dynasty and Middle Tang Dynasty, Bai JuYi seasonal life,Bai JuYi festive ideas from the perspective of literature and culture. This thesis consists of three parts, including the introduction, main body made up of three chapters and conclusion.The introduction part briefly introduces the significance of this topic of Bai JuYi seasonal poetry and its research status.The first chapter introduces the profile of Bai JuYi seasonal poem creation. The first section in this paper, first employs the form of table presenting an overview of the phenomena of every seasonal poem creation. According to the statistics, there are 109 pieces of seasonal poems in total. In the second section, the article according to the time sequence of poems introduces the festival customs involved one by one. During the introduction, it is closely related to poetry and festival customs displayed in the poetry. This section mainly introduces the relationship between Cold Food Festival and the creation of poetry about Cold Food Festival, which not only analyzes the customs of Cold Food Festival, but also analyzes the reasons accounting for the largest number of the poems about Cold Food Festival in depth. In addition, based on the relationship between Cold Food Festival and Tomb-Sweeping Day, this section also contrasts the Cold Food Festival and Tomb-Sweeping Day. It is concluded that the Tomb-Sweeping Day has signs of independence into a section in the Tang Dynasty.The second chapter is about the seasonal poetry and leisure culture. It analyzes how the ancestors interpret the word "leisure" brought from the west during the daily life. Therefore, the first section firstly explain the word "leisure" and then further explains it according to the ancient Chinese works on "leisure", defining the "leisure" of the ancient Chinese scholars. This section sums up the reasons accounting for the formation of the seasonal leisure in the Tang Dynasty mainly from the aspects of economy, politics, and leisure places. The second section classifies the seasonal leisure activities reflected in Bai JuYi’s poems in detail, which systematically analyses the leisure life of the people in Tang Dynasty.The third chapter is the thought research of Bai JuYi’s seasonal poems. This chapter is divided into three sections, which are exactly the three stages of Bai JuYi’s life. The first stag is about Bai JuYi’s leaving home for ChangAn to serve as Jiao Shu Lang. At this time he officially started his political path. It regards the political experience when Bai JuYi from serving the Jiao Shu Lang to makeing the outgoing prefectural governor in Suzhou is the second stag,In the meantime,his political experience is tortuous;The last stage is in his later years,where in ChangAn and LuoYang, being an official. Each phase are concluded and summarized the author’s feelings, mainly including homesickness, bosom friend, official retirement, exclamation old.In the conclusion it summarizes the full text. It concluded that Cold Food Festival and Tomb-Sweeping Day mean a lot in the heart of the Tang Dynasty, and that behind leisure culture it reflects the Tang’s people’s pursuit of beauty in their life, and the complexity of Bai JuYi’s life experience expresses the complexity of Bai JuYi’s ideas and so on. We can find that seasonal poetry study is not only conducive to the understanding of the poets’life and thought, but also to the protection of our traditional culture.
