| Verb reduplication widely exists in languages. In different languages, the form and meaning presented by verb reduplication are not the same, therefore,it is a phenomenon worth of studying. Based on the analysis of predecessors’research on verb reduplication, the thesis, mainly using relative theory and methods of typology, intends to make a extensive and detailed investigation of verb reduplication from various angles, hoping to enhance the understanding of verb reduplication.The thesis are devided into five chapters:Chapter one:Introduction. the chapter makes a brief summary of the characteristics and research status of verb reduplication; besides, it also introduces the research scope, the research methods, the corpus source, the genealogical classification and and the annotation in the article.Chapter two:It studies the form of verb reduplication from typological perspective. According to the statistics, verb reduplication can be divided into five types:complete reduplication, incomplete reduplication, adding reduplication, cross reduplication and indirect reduplication. Then I further defined the types of verb reduplication in different languages family, and some rules of reduplication and its distribution of different types.Chapter three:It analyzes the verb reduplication from semantic perspective. Reduplication forms contain the meaning of [±a little] and [±short time], presenting the core grammatical meaning "continue". At the same time, it’s expounds and compatible with some other meanings, such as [±mild], etc. The process is accompanied by some emotional expression, such as "try", "free", "leisure" and"euphemism". At the same time, it implys the time characteristics of "past" and "future"Chapter four:It studies the verb reduplication from the syntactic perspective. On the one hand, it analyzes the verb reduplication serving as the predicate, subject, attribute, adverbial and complement components. On the other hand, it summarizes how to express interrogative sentence by verb reduplication.Chapter five:Conclusion. It summarizes the main reseach achievements of the thesis, puts forward some limitation to think about, and give some direction for further research. |
