Chinese auspicious animal patterns, which have some unique culturally symbolic significance, possess such characteristics as colors and forms of traditional Chinese patterns. In modern silk design, there are two extremes:on the one hand, some blindly praise Western design patterns or direct copy them; on the other hand, some use traditional decorative patterns mechanically, which ignore the times and cultural content behind those patterns. But in fact, colors and forms of traditional Chinese patterns should be reformed and innovated, so as to better use in modern silk design.This article studies the current research status of Chinese auspicious animal patterns. Pass the literature and the actual case, to summarize the results of the cultural meaning in Chinese auspicious animal patterns. Finally, the cultural connotations of crane pattern were discussed and apply them in modern silk design. Trying to enrich modern silk design language and make it reflects the characteristics of the epoch feature.
