This is a translation project report based on the author’s English-Chinese translation practice of the second and eighth chapters of the UN document Compilation Guide to the International Recommendations for Tourism Statistics 2008, which is an official document that aims to provide guidance on the implementation of the UN document International Recommendations for Tourism Statistics 2008. The making and compilation of the tourism statistics reports of all relevant countries are guided by the two documents. The source text features formal, impersonal and precise language, and involves a lot of statistical knowledge.Prompted by Yan Fu’s translation theory and taking the features of the source text into account, the author has developed the five specific translation principles including accuracy, smoothness, consistency, concision and formality. A detailed explanation of how those five principles are applied is given in case analysis, which is expected to be valuable for the future translation of official documents.
