Primitivists launched the primitivism movement due to the dissatisfaction with modern society and the esteem of human instinct in late 19th century and early 20th century. The movement affected areas such as literature and art, and emerged a large number of works with the primitivism color, and finally formed a kind of worldwide cultural zeitgeist. With the tide of primitivism sweeping in, the gradually programmed classical ballet, because of the mainly pursuit of skills, was also under its influence. As leading characters of primitivism dance, Gas Ralph Nijinsky adopted primitivism boldly into the creation of ballet "L’Apres-midid’un Faune", "Rite of Spring" and other works, which enriched the dance themes, characters of dynamic image and stage scheduling. The strong primitivism color formed Nijinsky’s unique style of modern ballet, and owning to his constantly breakthrough, the programmed classical ballet became refreshed and started a new page. In addition, Nijinsky built the irreplaceable statue of one of "the greatest performers" in international ballet circle due to his extraordinary physical skills and performing capability. In this paper, the author chose primitivism as perspective to study Nijinsky’s creation based on the deep research of his artistic background and representative works, and tried to show his thought on society, ethnics, culture, human nature, etc. behind his works through the perspective of primitivism to enable more people to understand the related knowledge, primitivism as well as the primitivism color in depth.
