Research On Corot’s Portraiture

The thesis mainly focuses on the Corot’s portraiture, which have a detail analysis on the spiritual qualities of the unique realism, characteristics of breaking through the tradition-bound practices and the profound influence on western painting in Corot’s portraiture works.Corot’s was a great artist and known as the great landscapist. However, the fact that he was also a great portraitist was realized after his death. Although his works of portraiture are gradually known to people, the research on the innovation of his skills and theories in the field of painting has still seemed to be rare. As a consequence of this reason, the paper has laid more importance on studies of comparing the Corot’s portraiture with that of classical school in order to explore the bold breakthrough in the ways of expression and the skills of painting on Corot’s work. The thesis also have an analysis after compared it with Impressionistic Portraits, and then find his profound influence on Impressions Portraits. The topic have a deeply research on the unique spirit of Corot’s works together with studying the characteristics of “plebeian temperament” and “modernity”. It’s obvious that Corot plays a contextual role in the history of western art. We can clearly find the change of aesthetic transformation in the mid-nineteen century in his paintings. It’s of great significance on the study of western art history.
