Interrogative sentences are one of the expressions that are commonly used for daily communication. The comparison between interrogative sentences and declarative sentences, imperative sentences, exclamatory sentences and other type of sentences based on their grammatical structures, types and systems is widely various and is more difficult. Therefore, for teaching language, especially for teaching Chinese to speakers of other language is the most difficult part. In common, the interrogative sentences that include the question and answer involve two persons who ask and answer the question. In order to get an accurate answer and to express the question correctly, the person who asks should be able to choose the type of the question accurately due to his/her role as the one who is to be the first to be affected. Based on this situation, the author chose interrogative sentences from her second language and her mother language to do the comparative investigation.The grammatical structure of interrogative sentences in every language has its own rule to form the complete sentence, as well as Chinese and Indonesian. Many linguists have been studied the system and type of interrogative sentences in Chinese deeply, depict, and worldwide. But, the comparative study about the difference between interrogative sentences in Chinese and Indonesian is still lacking. There are two reasons, first, the fundamental studied of Indonesian has not been achieved to the complete description and explanation yet, and second, Indonesian is not widely used over the world. The author tried to study and analyse the difference between interrogative sentences in Chinese and Indonesian as her mother language by doing the comparative analysis thoroughly and in a systematic way, thus one can distinguish the differences and the similarities between them. The author also tried to give some theoretical and practical suggestions, ways of teaching, knowledge and thoughts about teaching Chinese as a second language. Hopefully, the teachers and students could have a complete systematic introduction for the educational system in the future, either for teaching or learning interrogative sentences in Chinese. Thus, they can have new insights and thoughts about the interrogative sentences.This thesis is written based on the some methodologies, which are the description of the interrogative sentences, the comparative analysis between them, the classification and conclusion of the interrogative sentences, literature study, and the other studies by demonstrating the problem narratively. First, the description of the interrogative sentences in which the system and variety of the interrogative sentences in both Chinese and Indonesian is described generally and specifically. Second, the comparative analysis between interrogative sentences in both Chinese and Indonesian is given. Third, the classification and conclusion of the interrogative sentences in which guide the author to find the differences and similarities between them thus the author gave the conclusion of this study. Fourth, literature study is done in order to collect the needed data about the variety of interrogative sentences then investigate and analyse them therefore they can be used as the foundations, thoughts, methods for doing the study.This thesis is divided into five chapters. The first chapter is introducing the background of the study, its importance and the aim of this study also the methods for doing the comparative study between interrogative sentences in Chinese and Indonesian. The second chapter is introducing the variety and system of interrogative sentences in Chinese. The third chapter is introducing the variety and system of interrogative sentences in Indonesian. The fourth chapter is the most important part of this thesis in which the main focus of the whole study is explained, that is the comparative analysis between the interrogative sentences in Chinese and Indonesian thoroughly also finding the cause of their differences in detail. The fifth chapter is focus on the point of view on how to teach Chinese as a second language by introducing and giving suggestions followed by example to the teacher and students who use Indonesian as the mother language.
