As we all know, Huangshi dialect has both Gan dialect and Jianghuai mandarin’s features, which also has the trend of closing to Wuhan dialect in recent ten years. All these factors become the Huangshi dialect system which has the Gan dialect’s feature and affected by Southwest mandarin.In Huangshi dialect, “guo” is a highly used demonstrative. In syntax, “guo-” can collocate with adjective, verb and noun, which can be a variety of ingredients in the sentence. In semantics, the semantics orientation of “guo-”is abundant, which usually directs the word it refers to, no matter what sentence element it acts. In pragmatics, “guo” is used in topic and discourse. “Guo” is a “landmark” of Huangshi dialect, which has powerful function, but predecessors’ researches are limited, so this paper tries to discuss “guo”in syntax, semantics and pragmatics.This paper is divided into six chapters. Chapter one is introduction, which introduced the object of the study, the history and present situation about this thesis, the research purposes, significances and methods. Chapter two is syntax analysis, which respectively discussed when it expressed degree and state, it acts as predicate, attribute, adverbial, complement collocating with adjective, verb and noun. Chapter three introduced semantic features of “guo”in indicating degree, mode, quantity and character. Chapter four compares “guo” with “cai”, “ji”and “man “in syntax and semantics. Chapter five introduced pragmatic function of “guo”, including topic introduction, topic shift, topic maintenance, topic finish and anaphoric, anaphora and exophora. Chapter six is the summary of this paper and it came to some conclusions.
